DRAMA

Drama enables students to imagine and participate in exploration of their worlds, individually and collaboratively. Students actively use body, gesture, movement, voice and language, taking on roles to explore and depict real and imagined worlds. They create, rehearse, perform and respond using the elements and conventions of drama and emerging and existing technologies available to them. 

Students are encouraged to enter the Catholic Performing Arts Festival, attend workshops with artists, perform at events, assemblies and commit themselves to full scale productions as part of their training and involvement in the subject of Drama. Extension Ensembles in Drama are also provided after school.

MUSIC

Music allows students to individually and collaboratively develop the confidence to be creative, innovative, thoughtful, skilful and informed musicians. Students develop 

skills and techniques to actively listen, analyse, improvise, compose and perform music. Students develop aesthetic appreciation and respect for their own and others’ music practices and traditions across different times, places, cultures and contexts. 

 Mother Teresa Catholic College provides all students with the opportunity to participate in music regardless of age and level ability. MTCC music students perform regularly within the College and wider community events. Students are invited to be part of the College Musical Production and participate in the Catholic Performing Arts Festival.

The Instrumental Music Programme attracts over 100 students who participate in private lessons. Enrolling a child in the Instrumental Program requires an application form to be submitted to the Team Leader of Arts and Technologies. Enrolments are processed in Term 4 in readiness for the following year, however, late enrolments are accepted throughout the year. 

DANCE

The Mother Teresa Catholic College Dance Program provides students with opportunities to actively participate in Dance as performers, choreographers and as audience members promoting wellbeing and social inclusion. Through Dance students’ will enhance their knowledge and understanding of diverse cultures and contexts while developing their personal, social and cultural identity. 

Students will develop skills across a number of dance genres such as Jazz, Ballet, Contemporary and Lyrical. Through these styles students will also learn choreographic, analytical and improvisation techniques while studying the history and kinesiology of dance. The programme offers students in-depth learning opportunities with specialist teachers and includes incursions/excursions with industry professionals as well as introductions to pathways beyond Senior School courses. Students from years 7 to 12 are able to participate in co-curricular Dance Troupe.

VISUAL ARTS

Visual Arts at MTCC engages students in a journey of discovery, experimentation and problem-solving. Self-expression and creative exploration thrive as students are encouraged to represent their ideas through a variety of art forms, techniques, and media in a well-resourced art studio space. 

As Visual Arts students undertake this journey, they become increasingly confident and proficient in viewing the world through various lenses and contexts, making judgments about their own importance as both artist and audience using critical analysis frameworks. Learning in the Visual Arts helps students to develop an understanding of world culture and their responsibilities as global citizens. 

The culmination of all student artwork will be included in the annual student art exhibition showcasing the creative talents and work practices of all student artists across Year 7 to Year 12. This is a community event where the Visual Arts are celebrated alongside Music, Dance and Drama student work.
