Staying Healthy This Winter – Tips from the College Nurse
As the colder months settle in, it's important to take extra care of our health and wellbeing. Winter often brings an increase in colds, flu, and other respiratory illnesses, so looking after ourselves helps keep not only us but our whole community safe and well.
Our College Nurse shares the following helpful tips for staying healthy during the winter season:
Keep Hands Clean – Regular handwashing with soap and water is one of the simplest and most effective ways to prevent the spread of germs.
Stay Warm – Dress in layers to keep warm, especially in the mornings and evenings. Make sure your uniform includes all appropriate winter items.
Eat Well & Stay Hydrated – A balanced diet rich in fruit, vegetables, and whole grains supports a healthy immune system. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water—even when it’s cold.
Get Plenty of Sleep – Rest is vital for recovery and resilience. Aim for consistent bedtimes and good-quality sleep.
Stay Home if Unwell – If your child is showing symptoms of illness (such as fever, cough, sore throat, or fatigue), please keep them home to rest and recover—and to help protect others.
Keep Up to Date with Vaccinations – The annual flu vaccine is recommended for most people and can provide valuable protection during the winter season.
By following these simple steps, we can support each other and ensure a healthier and more comfortable winter for all.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s health, please don’t hesitate to contact the College Nurse.

Year 4 Expo a Huge Success!
The Junior School Undercover Area was buzzing with excitement on Wednesday, 2nd July, as our Year 4 students proudly presented their learning at the 2025 Year 4 Expo. The event was a vibrant showcase of the students’ hard work throughout the term, with a focus on research skills, information report writing, and creative diorama projects.
Parents and caregivers were invited to a special morning session, where they had the opportunity to engage with their children’s work and hear firsthand about the learning process behind each display. Later in the morning, classes from across the school attended two expo sessions during Periods 2 and 3. It was fantastic to see younger and older students alike showing curiosity and enthusiasm as they explored the displays and asked thoughtful questions.
The Expo provided a rich opportunity for students to build confidence in presenting, celebrate their achievements, and connect with the wider school community. The creativity, effort, and depth of knowledge on display were truly impressive, and we are so proud of what the Year 4 students have accomplished.
A big thank you to all the parents, staff, and students who made the event such a memorable success!
From the Head of school: Pre-Kindy to Year 2
As we reach the end of Term 2, I want to take a moment to thank you all for your continued support and involvement in your child’s learning journey. It has been a great joy reading every child’s report and witnessing the wonderful growth, learning, and individual achievements across our early years. Each child has made meaningful progress in their own unique way, and we are so proud of their efforts. Our Pre-Primary and Year 1 students wrapped up the term with their swimming lessons—an exciting highlight that was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The lessons were not only a chance to build water confidence and skills but also provided a little adventure, especially the bus rides, which were a first-time experience for some!
This term has been filled with joyful moments, rich learning and strong community connections. We are so grateful for the many ways our parents have engaged with classroom activities and shared their voices to help shape and strengthen our school. From shared story time, to parent help in class activities, to joining us in liturgical celebrations; your partnership is deeply valued and has a positive impact on our learners and their experiences.
As we head into the winter break, I hope you find time to rest, recharge and enjoy the simple pleasures like warm drinks, shared stories and cosy moments with loved ones. I know I am very much looking forward to these things with my family! We ended the term in just that spirit, all wrapped in our pyjamas for a good cause, raising funds for LifeLink and collecting winter items to support those in need. It was a heartwarming reminder of the compassion and generosity that lives in our school and a beautiful way to live out the spirit of Jesus.
Wishing you and your families a safe, restful and joy-filled holiday. We look forward to welcoming you back for Term 3!
Make A Move!
The College Sports Centre was bursting with colour, energy, and joy this week as our Year 3 to 6 students took centre stage for the highly anticipated Make a Move dance showcase. After a term of dedicated practice and creative exploration, each class confidently performed their own self-choreographed routines, proudly demonstrating the skills they had developed throughout the program. Dressed in vibrant costumes and beaming with excitement, the students lit up the room and brought their unique flair to the stage.
The event was a true celebration of community, with parents, caregivers, and even a few secondary students in attendance to cheer on the performers. The atmosphere was electric, with supportive applause, laughter, and even a few dance moves shared among the audience. For many students, it was not only a chance to perform but also an opportunity to build confidence, collaborate with peers, and step outside their comfort zones.
Throughout Term 2, all students from Kindy to Year 6 participated in the Make a Move program—an engaging dance initiative that integrated seamlessly with the Performing Arts and Physical Education curriculum. Students learnt choreography techniques, explored rhythm and movement, and worked together to develop original routines that reflected their creativity and teamwork.
Congratulations to all our Junior School students for their incredible performances and to the staff and families who supported them throughout the journey. The Make a Move program not only celebrated dance but also celebrated the spirit of learning, collaboration, and joy at the heart of our College.

Zane and Ethan Inspire Future Pathways at KIC iMEN Program
Current Year 11 students Zane and Ethan recently returned to the Kwinana Industries Council (KIC) as special guests at the Year 10 KIC iMEN Program workshop. Both students are currently undertaking a two-year KIC Heavy Diesel Plant Mechanic Pre-apprenticeship, completing a Certificate II in Automotive Servicing Technology (Heavy Vehicle Servicing Pre-apprenticeship).
On Day Three of the program, Zane and Ethan shared their journey and experiences with the next group of aspiring trades students. Speaking to current Year 10 participants, they offered practical insights into the realities of pre-apprenticeship training, the importance of hands-on learning, and what it takes to succeed in the heavy automotive industry.
Their visit was a valuable opportunity for Year 10 students to hear firsthand from peers who are already progressing through a vocational education pathway. It not only helped to demystify the process but also inspired others to consider similar pathways that align with their interests and strengths.
Well done to Zane and Ethan for representing the College with pride and for encouraging the next generation of skilled professionals!
Year 12 ATAR Physical Education Students Attend West Coast Fever Match
On Friday, 20 June 2025, the Year 12 ATAR Physical Education Studies students had the exciting opportunity to attend the Round 11 West Coast Fever vs Thunderbirds game at RAC Arena.
This excursion provided valuable insight into the world of elite netball, directly supporting the students' current studies. Watching the game live allowed students to observe high-level gameplay in action, helping them connect classroom theory with real-world application.
Throughout the match, students were able to analyse team strategies, individual skills, and complex movement patterns—elements they have explored in depth during the course. Seeing these aspects unfold in a high-pressure professional setting enriched their understanding and appreciation of the sport.
It was an engaging and educational experience that not only supported their academic learning but also inspired their passion for physical education.
Rhythm, joy and heart
On Wednesday, July 2, our Year 8 Students brought the house down with their highly anticipated Line Dancing Competition. As part of a pastoral initiative focused on connection and student engagement, the event was a huge success- filled with laughter, rhythm, and community spirit. Challenged with stepping outside of their comfort zones and building one another up, the Year 8's embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and heart.
After weeks of preparation and organisation, Homeroom's took to the stage with confidence and flair, showcasing creative choreography and impressive coordination. The judging panel - Mrs Doyle, Mr Tudor, and College Principal Mr Sutton - had the tough job of scoring performances that were bursting with energy and heart.
A special thank you goes to our amazing Homeroom Teachers, who didn’t just cheer from the sidelines- they booted and scooted right alongside their students, bringing even more fun and connection to the morning. Their enthusiasm and support helped make the event truly unforgettable.
This initiative was designed to build confidence, encourage leadership, foster inclusivity, and support wellbeing through physical activity. Students embraced the joy of movement and music while strengthening connections with their peers.
Mrs Irons shared her pride in the students, saying, “It was heartwarming to see everyone give it their all and hype each other up! The energy in the room was electric, and the Year 8's truly made it a memorable end to the term.”
Congratulations to 8.6, who took out the prize this time with their standout performance! With such incredible talent and spirit on display, we’re looking to seeing what Mrs Irons is challenging them to next!
KIC iMEN Graduation Wednesday, 2 July
Congratulations to two of our current Year 10 students, Leo and Jhett who recently graduated from the iMEN project facilitated by KIC (Kwinana Industries Council).
On Wednesday evening, students presented what they had done and learnt in their program, to their parents and caregivers and representatives from their schools and industry. Workshops included team-building activities, career pathways, personal and career goal setting, resumes, career portfolios and interview skills and techniques. There was also an excursion to the Construction Futures Centre and site tours to Ahrens, All Type Engineering, Crushing Services International and Tianqi Lithium. Participation in these programs can also assist towards student achievement of their Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) through a C grade WACE unit equivalent.
Well done, Jhett and Leo; we wish you the very best in your future career pathways.
Jhett
What did I do and what was my favourite part of the program?
During the program, I took part in various activities, including site tours, learning about different trades, and hearing from people working in the industry. My favourite part was definitely the site tours. I really enjoyed visiting different workplaces and seeing what it’s actually like on the job. It gave me a real insight into how each trade works day-to-day. I also enjoyed meeting the people at the tours—they were friendly, helpful, and gave great advice about how to get into the industry. Talking to them made me more excited about my future and more confident in the path I want to take.
What did I get out of the program?:
I gained relevant knowledge about various trades and a better understanding of how to get into them. The program also helped me feel more confident about my future career pathway and gave me insight into what employers are looking for. I learnt about the importance of having a good attitude, being reliable, and putting in the effort to improve my skills. It also made me more motivated to work hard at school so I can reach my goals.
Would I recommend the program to other Year 10 students, and why?
Yes, I would recommend this program to other Year 10 students because it gives a clear idea of what different trades involve and how to get into them. The site tours make it easier to understand what working in a trade is really like. It also helps students stay motivated, make better subject choices, and plan for their future. Plus, you get to meet new people and learn in a fun and supportive way.
Leo
During the program, we had the chance to observe experienced workers carrying out their daily tasks, which gave me a real insight into what different jobs involve in a hands-on environment. We didn’t do the work ourselves, but watching professionals showed me the skills and effort required in various trades. In addition to observing, we also participated in simulations, such as driving heavy machinery and operating equipment, which was both challenging and exciting. My favourite part of the program was definitely the simulations because they made the experience interactive and gave me a safe way to try out tasks that I might not have been able to do otherwise. From the program, I gained a better understanding of different career options and what working in those roles looks like day-to-day. I also learned about the importance of safety and precision in skilled jobs. I would highly recommend this program to other Year 10 students because it offers a unique chance to see real work environments up close and try out practical skills in a supportive setting, which can really help you decide if a particular career path is right for you.
I would also like to say a big thank you to Debbie and Kristy for taking me on in their amazing course.

Year 10 Outdoor Education Overnight Camp – Learning Beyond the Classroom
Last week, our Year 10 Outdoor Education students took part in their much-anticipated Overnight Camp, a rewarding experience that combined adventure, teamwork, and the practical application of skills learned throughout the semester.
Over the course of the camp, students participated in a range of challenging and exciting activities, including bushwalking, mountain biking, and kayaking. These activities provided an ideal setting for students to apply both their theoretical knowledge and practical skills in real-world outdoor environments.
Beyond the physical challenges, the camp also fostered valuable personal growth. Students developed their leadership, resilience, and teamwork abilities while forming stronger connections with their peers and teachers.
The overnight camp not only enriched their understanding of outdoor education but also provided memorable experiences that will stay with them long after the school year ends. Well done to all students for their enthusiastic participation and to the staff who made the camp a success!
Year 7 Female AFL Team Shined at ACC AFL Carnival
Our Year 7 female AFL team recently took part in a full-day AFL Carnival hosted by the Associated and Catholic Colleges of Western Australia (ACC). The event brought together schools from across the state, celebrating the skills, sportsmanship, and growing participation of young women in Australian Rules Football.
The students travelled by bus to and from the venue, where they represented the College with pride, determination, and fantastic team spirit. Throughout the day, they demonstrated the skills they had developed during training, working together and giving their best in every match.
We were proud to see the way these young ladies played with heart and upheld the values of our College both on and off the field. A special thank you goes to the dedicated staff who supported the team throughout their preparation and to the parents who came along to cheer from the sidelines.
Well done to all involved—you made us proud!
Students Lead the Way in LifeLink’s Winter Appeal
In response to Archbishop Costelloe SDB’s 2025 Winter Appeal for LifeLink, our Senior School student leaders took action—organising a heartfelt and inclusive Comfort Day to raise both awareness and funds for those in need.
In his annual appeal, Archbishop Tim reminded us that 2025 has been declared a Holy Year of Jubilee, calling all Catholics to be “Pilgrims of Hope”—signs of light and encouragement for those who are excluded, struggling, or marginalised in our society. Inspired by this message, our student leaders invited the Secondary College community to wear something comfortable, from cosy trackpants to colourful onesies, in exchange for a gold coin donation.
The initiative not only encouraged a sense of togetherness and fun across the campus, but also served a deeper purpose—supporting LifeLink’s essential work in delivering hope, dignity, and practical assistance to individuals and families across Western Australia.
We are incredibly proud of our students for their leadership, generosity, and compassion. Their efforts reflect the true spirit of the Archbishop’s appeal—to recognise and celebrate those who give of themselves to uplift others. Together, our College community continues to live out our mission of being strong in faith and love, one act of kindness at a time.
Year 11 CFC Students Explore Child Development Through Play
On Tuesday, our Year 11 Children, Family and Community (CFC) students took part in a lively and purposeful incursion with the Pre-Primary classes in the Junior School. As part of their studies, the senior students designed and built recycled toys, which they brought along to share with the younger children.
This hands-on learning experience gave our Year 11s the chance to observe how the children interacted with the toys, while also assessing key aspects of development such as fine and gross motor skills, cognitive function, and social engagement.
The session was filled with smiles, laughter, and meaningful connection, as both groups of students embraced the opportunity to learn from each other. It was a fun, practical, and insightful way for our senior students to deepen their understanding of early childhood development.
Titration Stakes News
In our first attempt in the Titration Stakes Chemistry Competition, we had some very impressive results. Run on a rainy night on Tuesday 17th June, we had a late hurdle as Brooke S had to withdraw after a sporting injury the night before. So, five students travelled to Curtin University to match chemistry skills with 116 teams from 41 schools.
Our individual results saw Michelle V pick up the top award, a High Distinction. Simran K gained a Distinction, with Lewis H a Credit and Taj M and Beatrice M achieving Competent. Michelle was ranked 48th out of 341 students who participated, Simran 85th and Lewis 135th. Our top team finished 25th out of the 116 teams that entered the competition, while our second team finished a creditable 69th place.
Their success was a team effort from our lab staff, Mr David Feast and Mrs Tracey Kirk, and the help of Miss Tanika Cardoso, who helped with supervision on the night.
Well done, Michelle, Beatrice, Brooke, Simran, Lewis and Taj. The challenge is now thrown down to our Year Eleven students to do better next year.

The 7/11 Student Leader Symposium
This week, the newly appointed Year Seven student leaders met with the Year Eleven student leaders at the inaugural “7-11 Symposium”. The aim of this exercise was to establish relationships between the two groups, with the opportunity for the older students to build their mentoring skills and increase the confidence and capacity of the younger students.
The student leaders brainstormed ideas on what was important to them in the College and what activities and initiatives they could implement together to raise awareness and spirit in their peers. The Year Elevens are to be commended on the way they embraced this event and valued and championed the Year Sevens ideas.
Stayed tuned for news on the fruits of their burgeoning partnership. There is no doubt that they will amplify student voice and engagement in everyday life at Mother Teresa.
